Raja Ampat, West Papua

Raja Ampat Expedition | SOLD OUT

A Luxury Indonesian Phinisi-Schooner Voyage

Described as the "Amazon of the oceans," West Papua and Raja Ampat is a tropical maze of extraordinary array of marine life, home to more than a thousand fish species and three-quarters of all known coral species. Perhaps the most extreme remote tropical archipelago on this planet, a dream-like place only your imagination could create. But it's not just a fairy tail place spoken about with mystical myths, it is real! And you can live there floating at sea aboard a luxury wooden yacht with sail set high in the sky to catch the wind blowing across the Ceram Sea.

Enthusiastic divers and snorkelers plunge into the azure depths, hoping to encounter mesmerizingly patterned carpet sharks, majestic manta rays, and elusive pygmy seahorses. Above the waterline, picturesque bungalows hover over the crystal-clear ocean, while palm trees gracefully arch toward pristine beaches untouched by human footprints.

Travel Tips

TRAVEL

The destination for the start of the voyage is the island of Sorong in West Papa. This is where you will meet the cruise director and your fellow travel companions. There are NO international flights to Sorong and you must fly to Sorong from Jakarta. There are multiple indirect flights from Jakatra to Sorong and one direct flight that we recommend daily. The flight from Jakatra to Sorong is froughly 3-4 hours and most common flight is a red-eye arriving in Sorong early in the morning.

• Step 1 - Fly to Jakarta

International - Flights should be booked to JAKARTA Soekarno–Hatta International Airport. Airlines that fly to Jakarta are: United Airlines, China Eastern, Quatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, American Airlines, Delta, Cathay Pacific. Common flights have layover is Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo OR through Doha and Dubai.

• Step 2 - Fly from Jakarta to Sorong

Domestic - Two domestic airlines fly direct from Jakarta to Sorong, West Papa. Garuda Indonesia and Batik Air operate regular flights departing from Jakarta at around mid-night arriving in Sorong, West Papa at 6:00am. The flight is 4-hours and direct flights are always red-eye flights.

If you wish to not have any long layovers during your travels to Sorong, we recommend you look for a flight that arrives in Jakarta during the evening hours. Numerous flights arrive in Jakarta between 7:00pm - 10:00pm, these flights offer enough time to fly from your home destination to Jakarta (with a layover) with minimal downtown.
