The Swedish archipelago is made up of an astounding thirty thousand islands that are surrounded by pristine ocean and beautiful history. Here we will sail away from crowds, this maze of islands affords unlimited peaceful places to swim and explore rocky shores. Much of the Stockholm archipelago is nominated to become a World Heritage site and National Park and this beauty will not be lost on you, but it still offers plenty of opportunity to visit local restaurants and bars.
Stockholm is located on the east coast of Sweden. Lidingö-Gåshaga charter base is located about 14 km from the city center of Stockholm and about 49 km from Stockholm Arlanda Airport. It is about 110 km from Stockholm Skavsta Airport. It is about 20 km from Stockholm Bromma Airport
Upon arrival to the Stockholm Arlanda Airport you can either go by bus or train ( Arlanda Express ) (approx. 35min / 20 min) to the city center. From here you can take the subway to Ropsten and then the tram ( Lidingöbanan ) all the way to our base at Lidingö-Gåshaga. A taxi takes about 50 min from the Arlanda airport.
There are plenty of taxis waiting just outside the airports, or if you prefer, you can book transfer in advance and pay upon arrival to marina base. Most of the time the prevailing wind is SW - NW 1-4 Beaufort during summer, but as a low pressure enters the area you may get rain and sometimes more wind and the direction will vary. Note that in spring and summertime you have very light evenings as the sun sets very late. The Stockholm archipelago has no tidal change!
Collapsible bags in place of large rigid suitcases are advised for ease of transport on and off the boat.
During days on the water, you’ll want to be wearing light and comfortable clothing. As the vast majority of your time will be spent outside, prepare for elements - bring a light rain coat just in case, a hat to shield yourself from the sun, and a set of warm clothing. Throughout the week we may dine out at a nice restaurant, so bring gear that you’ll look nice in and suits your style. Loading and unloading from the dingy can be a wet activity, a pair of shoes that you can get wet is recommended.
We'll all meet at the boat Sunday afternoon, where you can move in, get comfortable, and get to know your fellow travelers with a welcome dinner together that evening at the marina where we'll spend our first evening discussing the journey.
Vaxholm is an idyllic island characterized by a 17th Century fortress that now houses a museum. A walk through the picturesque harbor includes painted wooden houses from the turn of the century, and cafes and shops to browse in.
This 900m-long island, northeast of Stockholm, combines lush woods and meadows with sheltered coves, rocky cliffs and visiting eagle owls. It’s a popular summertime spot, but there are enough quiet corners to indulge your inner hermit. Activities include an beachside-sauna, kayaks, and day hikes. Walking trails cover most of the island, taking in awesome panoramic views at various points. At the harbour there's a little shop.
An island where you can experience the remarkable maritime terrain of the outer archipelago. Sandhamn is the key meeting place for sailors and yachters, with a vibrant party scene during summer. The idyllic village, a historical sea pilot station, has an inn, hotels, the classic Royal Swedish Yacht Club, and numerous restaurants and bars.
Star of the archipelago’s southern section, Utö has it all: sublime sandy beaches, lush fairy-tale forests, sleepy farms, abundant bird life and a highly rated restaurant. At 13km long and up to 4km wide, Utö's network of roads and tracks make for heavenly cycling sessions on a bike rented to explore for the day.
Dalarö in the southern archipelago is the perfect final stop. It was a popular holiday spot with artists and royalty in the 19th Century, and has many narrow and winding streets to explore. There are also lots of cafés, shops, restaurants and beaches here. Visit the Archipelago Museum to learn more about the area's ecology and history.
On our final day we will sail around the beautiful Old Town section of downtown Stockholm. Sail by the iconic Gamla Stan and Vasa Museum. We will have the chance to visit the area by foot before and after the charter.
Sleeping 8 in 4 double cabins with 4 private heads, the Farr 60 is the perfect luxury cruising boat. Designed in 1995 and the premiere design in the Farr Pilot House Range, the Farr 60 Pilot House turned many heads when launched at the Southampton Boat Show in the same year. She is the epitome of what a modern cruising yacht should be: The wide beam carried a long way aft allows such expanse below that you will only find on most yachts of 70 feet or over. This enables the interior to give total comfort even during the most arduous passages.
