The San Juan Islands are the ultimate cruising grounds for the Pacific Northwest. Located in the northwest corner of the United States between the US mainland and Vancouver Island, Canada, the San Juans offer a diverse topography: beautiful sandstone islands, pebbly beaches, crystal clear water, surrounding snow-covered mountains giant trees and lush meadows. During your sailing trip you will have the opportunity to see Orca whales, harbor seals, otters, bald eagles, black tail deer and many more native animals and species of the local region. Our days will be filled with hiking, sailing, crabbing (in season) and endless opportunities for napping, reading, photography and exploring the many wonderful bays, islands and harbors just a short sail away.

Our days will be filled with hiking, sailing, crabbing and endless opportunities for napping reading and exploring all the wonderful bays, islands and harbors located a short sail away.

We sleep aboard the sailboats at the marina Day 1 of the journey and depart Sunday morning after the boat tutorial. Meeting time at the marian is between 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm. Upon arrival, the front desk at the marina will show you where the Sailing Collective boats are, look for the Sailing Collective banner on the sailboats, your captain and crew will be waiting your arrival. After everyone arrives and settle in abroad, we dine ashore for our first outing of the journey. Note, the evening of Day 1 and the morning of Day 2, passengers should purchase alcohol and beverages for the week as well as any last minute personal provisioning.
Seattle, Washington - Seattle Tacoma International Airport (SEA)
Bellair Airport shuttle Seatac - Anacortes, WA: The Bellair shuttle runs every two hours starting at 6am. The trip takes approximately 3 hours and should cost roughly $37. Please book tickets in advance.
Since this trip is only travels in the USA you will not need your passport. Please bring a valid ID. However, the San Juan islands are right at the edge of Canada so if you plan on exploring before or after our sailing adventure, make sure to bring your PASSPORT.
During summer in the San Juan Islands you will experience many sunny days with a nice refreshing breeze. Average daytime highs are 70-80 F overnight low 60 F. You will experience some overcast weather with morning fog that burns off in the afternoon.
July and august is the prime season for boating in the San Juan islands. Sun rise in July is 530 am and sunset is not until 930pm which makes for nice long summer days and beautiful sunsets after dinner. The summer water temperature average is 55 degrees F which can be very refreshing on a hot summers day. If you plan on swimming for a long time it is advisable to bring a 3-4mm wetsuit.
Sailing Collective will provision your journey with local foods and produce. Cooking Aboard: Your Sailing Collective chef/crew is incredibly talented and can handle the group's needs with ease. We are all about participation and learning, so if you'd like to help, just ask and we'll get you involved! Collective groups may choose to dine out more times than scheduled if the group or individuals choose.

Collapsible bags in place of large rigid suitcases are advised for ease of transport on and off the boat.Loading and unloading from the dingy can be a wet activity, a pair of shoes such as flip flops that you can get wet if we are landing on a beach.
During days on the water, you’ll want to be wearing light and comfortable clothing. As the vast majority of your time will be spent outside, prepare for elements - bring a light rain coat just in case, a hat to shield yourself from the sun, and a set of warm clothing. Throughout the week we may dine out at a nice restaurant, so bring gear that you’ll look nice in and suits your style. Loading and unloading from the dingy can be a wet activity, a pair of shoes that you can get wet is recommended.
Friday Harbor,located on San Juan Island functions as the major port in the islands. Accessible by ferry, floatplane and boat, it makes for a great stop off location while cruising. Friday Harbor is known for its local arts and crafts, gift shops, and farmer's markets. When you’ve been out cruising the islands nothing beats a nice brewed cup of coffee from a local coffee shop or a pleasant dining experience at one of Friday Harbor's many restaurants.
Sucia is considered to be one of the most beautiful island groups in the Pacific Northwest. It is the Northernmost island group in the San Juan’s surrounded by open water and only accessible by boat. Sucia faces the straight of Georgia, which allows for great afternoon sailing and a beautiful view while at anchor. Shaped like an almost perfect hand with sandstone finger islands, its many different protected coves and varied landscape offer beautiful hikes and campsites right at the waters edge.
Stuart Island is the Northwestern most of the San Juan Islands. It is well know for its Turn Point Lighthouse hike, which gives you a beautiful view across Haro Straight to the Canadian Gulf islands. Reid Harbor and Prevost Harbor, two majestic landlocked harbors on either side of the narrow spine of the island, provide excellent moorage and anchorage.
Jones Island is a small island between San Juan and Orcas Islands. It makes for an excellent launch stop when cruising North or South. Jones is known for its nearly tame black-tail deer that roam the island and its many trails that make for great afternoon nature walks. We will often pack a lunch and find a nice bench overlooking San Juan Channel.
Roche Harbor, originally a lime factory has since been restored into a beautiful resort and marina. Many of the original buildings such as the Hotel De Haro and the Chapel of Our Lady Good Voyage provide visitors with a unique historical experience. Roche offers a variety of on-land activities with its beautiful flower gardens, its local bakery and best of all the evening dining experience overlooking the famous Roche Harbor sunset colors flag ceremony.
